It has been a while. I've been very busy at
Suretec and ill over Christmas. So at last, the next issue!
OpenLDAP 2.4.7 Released:
OpenLDAP 2.4.7 was released on the 14th December 2007.
Current gotchas include
incompatible indexing between 2.4.6 and 2.4.7
There are
lots of fixes and new documentation content.
OpenLDAP 2.3.40 Released:
OpenLDAP 2.3.40 was released on the Boxing Day.
New mailing List:
An
OpenLDAP Technical List was
announced.
Please
sign-up and ask any questions related to
The OpenLDAP Project. This includes 3rd Party software (at last I hear you shout!

).
Update on Build Farm:
Nothing new to report yet...
Contributions:
Documentation contributions from Andreas Hasenack.
Many thanks. I will find the correct place for ACL Set Examples soon.
OpenLDAP Documentation updates:
Not much from me due to work load. Lots planned, as usual.....
Lots of
man page updates.
OpenLDAP Development:
The
core team and engineering team have been
busy as usual.
If you remember from
Issue 6:
Howard answers a question I raised ages ago, which shows it may be possible to use slapo-translucent as I planned.
Well, Howard has now a
working solution. Please test!
Lot's of
discussion about memberOf and Samba4
More evidence of Howard and his tuning obsessions, which we all appreciate!
Some
old bugs get closed and
Syncrepl between OpenLDAP 2.3 and 2.4 is now OK.
In summary, it's been a
very busy end of 2007 and
start to 2008.
If I wasn't ill over Christmas, I was going to do an "OpenLDAP in 2007" kind of post, but it's a bit late now
Community Binaries
You might not know, but Buchan Milne provides
RPMs of OpenLDAP for the community, not commercially supported of course.
They are for
Red Hat Enterprise Linux and are available for 2.3.x and 2.4.x OpenLDAP versions.
For commerically support RPMs, please either contact
Suretec or
Symas about
SymasTM OpenLDAPTM
Blog LDAP[?] Schema Update:
This is coming along. I've actually started with converting the
RSS 2.0 to an RFC
[?] for "An LDAP Schema for representing Really Simple Syndication".
It's almost done and will be announced when complete, after discussion with the
RSS Board.
If there was an OpenLDAP Cookbook, what recipes would you like to see?
I've been thinking about an
O'Reilly Cookbook for OpenLDAP for sometime now.
If there was one, what would you like to see in it?
I've started a page on the
Suretec Wiki called
OpenLDAP Cookbook Recipe ideas.
You need to register to see it (takes 2 seconds).
I'd love to hear from you, so please take the time to visit
Selected user issues and solutions discussed:
Since this issue is so late, there are too many to cover (but not much different from the usual user issues), so I'll point you to the archives for
Dec and
Jan.
